I choose to make the lining for my bags after everything else has been completed. (See Work Sequence in How to Make Mochila Wayuu Bags.) Traditional Wayuu bags are generally un-lined. But I think that lining will make a better and more practical bag. It will ensure that dirt does not stick to inside yarn of bag when bag is used. With lining, I can add pockets – which is always a desirable feature. The downside is … yup! More work!
The real Mochila Wayuu bags are crocheted bags, handmade by native tribe Wayuu. They come from the the northern peninsula of South America.
Here, please note that I am only talking about Mochila Wayuu lookalike bags. For ease, henceforth, I shall refer to them only as MW bags whenever possible.
Reinforcing Base & Attaching the Lining
As I mentioned in How to make a Base for MW bag, I recommend reinforcing your bag’s base. Nonetheless the illustrations shown below are just one of my way of doing things. There are always many ways of doing a thing. But I hope the below will be useful to you.
Inner Pockets for Bag
Pockets are optional. But very useful to have. Example below is double layered. Only because the material calls for it.
And note the error in the photo – the top of pocket should be about 6-7 cm from top of Lining.)
