AFL Fingerless Gloves – Geelong Cats, Sydney Swans; How To (CH0518A-C)

AFL Fingerless Gloves – made by a non-sporty fan – me!!! (˵ ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°˵)

AFL Fingerless Gloves – Geelong Cats, Sydney Swans; How To (CH0518A-C)
There are 3 gloves here (left to right):
• (a) dark red and white
• (b) Geelong Cats gloves
• (c) Sydney Swans gloves

However (a) was a trial run and failed to make the cut to be representative of the Sydney Swans colours (so my partner tells me). I don’t have any specific instructions for (a) but the following instructions are pretty generic. They will be useful as the basis for many variations of these gloves.

INSTRUCTIONS for Crochet Sydney Swans Fingerless Gloves

•Again, you can start with any method. I used chainless foundation single crochet to start.
Update: (2024) I now prefer the MM Cast On to start most of my crochet work.

R0/red: with 4mm hook start with 29 stitches (however/whichever way you choose to work your foundation row). Join at the end to the start as we will be working in the round.

Work in RED & WHITE for wrist, ending with 1 row of red.

After stripes, change to 5mm hook.

Continue with WHITE for 6TS (Thermal Stitch rows) … up to beginning of thumbhole.

(Refer to diagram below.)

Continue with Thermal Stitch, use diagram to work the “V” in red. No not work in round when working the thumbhole (of course). Join at the end of thumbhole to continue work in the round.

Work one TS (Thermal Stitch row) in the round, after the end of the thumbhole.

Change to the smaller 4mm hook. Carry on as per diagram. Finish off edges with crab stitch (aka reverse single crochet).

Crochet in thumb bands.

Crochet Red & White Fingerless Gloves (CH0518a)

This was originally intended as a pair of gloves in Sydney Swans colours. But my partner disabused me of that fiction. (I did say I was a very non-sporty person!) So now it is just a pair of Red & White gloves!

MATERIALS, EQUIPMENT, AND CROCHET STITCH

This is worked in pretty much the same way as the Swans gloves above.

• yarn: Heritage Mills (acrylic) – discontinued, as far as I know
• hook: 4mm, 5mm, 6mm
• stitch: Thermal Stitch
• size: S-Med

I started off with a 5mm crochet hook and 26 stitches. Also worked in the round.

RED & WHITE for wrist, ending with one row of red

Change hook to 6mm and work 6 rows of Thermal Stitch.

START THUMBHOLE

Work thermal st in red for 7 rows, joining circle at the end of that.

AFTER THUMBHOLE

• Work 3 thermal st rows.
• Change to 5mm hook. Ctd wth 1 TS (thermal stitch) row.
• Change to 4mm hook, and work 1 TS row.
• Crab st to finish edges

Make Thumb Bands
