This was my first wire crochet bracelet. Created for Audrey and inspired by Kristin St. Clair tutorial which appeared in Make It: Live from Tucson article and found at Martha Stewart’s craft website.
This wire crochet bracelet is named Riotous Garden – a celebration in the effusion of colours and the exuberant joys of a garden in riotous bloom.
The crochet bracelet is my own evolution from the tutorial mentioned. I had to figure my own way round to how to properly finish the wire band.
The flowers and leaves are made pretty much according to the tutorial. The wire crochet base was created to produce a smoother and more finished look. It is folded over, after the flowers and leaves are woven in. This ensures a smooth finish to the underside. That is important to provide a comfortable wear against the skin.

Materials
- silver plated brass wire: 0.25mm dia (both for wireworked flowers and crochet base)
- corchet hook: Clover 0.7mm
- silver plated magnetice brass slide clasp: 2.5cm (1 inch)
- crystal leaves, metallic wooden beads, Czech teardrop beads, faceted crystals, gemstone chips, turquoise chips, butterfly slider
How to Make Wire Crochet Bracelet
- When making the flowers, spread the wires apart. That will yield a neater twist. Start the twist as close to the (flower) head as possible.
- Do not over-twist. You could end up twisting the head off!
- Cut the ends after the twist is done so that the wires are even. Even ends will be easier to weave into the crochet base later.
For the crochet base, take into account the wrist size. The finished crochet bracelet should sit quite snugly with only a little bit of space. inbetween wrist and bracelet/cuff. When calculating the required length, remember to take account of the type of clasp you will be using.
After you have crocheted the right length, keep going till it is twice as long. Remember you will be folding this over in half later.
After the crochet base is complete, end off normally. Leave some tail to be woven into the base. Flatten the wire base by rolling with a bottle. That will give a smoother surface for comfort as well as a professional finish.
Then weave in your wire-worked flowers and leaves.
After all your flowers and leaves have been woven in, fold wire base in half. Use the same thin wire to over-sew along all sides. Attach the clasp as you go along. Work it so that as little of the clasp is showing on the right side. Here, I have tucked the loops of the clasp under the wire base.
