Dremel Accessories - Explained

When I got my fascinating Dremel Stylus, I was in love. But confused. My Dremel Stylus came with a box of accessories. But what in golly geez were they for? And how do I use those Dremel accessories? There was no manual. So, I have researched and results can be seen below in Individual Dremel Accessories Explained.

My new Dremel & Accessories

Dremel Multi-Chuck

Dremel 3-Jaw Multi Chuck #4486
While my Dremel Stylus came with its own box of accessories, it does not come with the indespensable multi-chuck. I have to thank a friend for putting me wise on this gadget.

The Dremel Multi-Chuck is (more) technically called the Dremel 4486 MultiPro Keyless Chuck.

A very knowledgeable Facebook friend (Chrissie Smith) pointed out to me I would find a Dremel Multi-Chuck very useful. At the time, she might as well have been speaking Greek to me. However I knew I had better listen. She, unlike me, knows what she is talking about when she Dremel-talks! So I got myself a chuck as well. Remember to get one for yourself as well. You will not regret it.

The Dremel Multi Jaw Chuck #4486 makes changing the accessories much easier – something you might be doing quite frequently.

Dremel Accessories

There are endless dremel accessories, including new and improved ones all the time. So this list cannot be comprehensive. Nonetheless I hope it will prove helpful to you in answering: What are those accessories, what are their uses, how to use them?

My Dremel Styles came with the following free box of accessories.

I also bought an additional box of Dremel accessories. One can never have enough, right?

General Tips on how to use Dremel Accessories

For best results, insert the accessory bit all the way into the tool and then back it out slightly before tightening down. This provides plenty of shank for the collet or chuck to hold onto.

Dremel Bristle Brush #403 ($8.93)
Ideal for general cleaning and polishing especially in hard-to-reach places, such as slotted surfaces. Its nylon bristles make it great for polishing silverware, jewelry and other precious metals.

TIPS:
  • Do not run in excess of 15,000 rpm. Therefore, do not use with a Single-Speed MultiPro Rotary Tool or a Heavy-Duty Flex-Shaft Tool unless you use the #221 Foot Speed Control.
  • Keep a light touch, letting the tips of the brush do the work. Too much pressure can break the bristles.
  • Before using on a material, allow the tool with brush to run at operating speed for at least one minute to discharge any loose bristles. Make sure no one stands in front of or in line with the brush.
  • This bristle brush can be used with polishing compound.

Just short of a manual, I found that the time-consuming effort it took to compile this list was worthwhile. It proves a handy reference during this period of my early courtship with my lovely Dremel Stylus. I hope it will prove to be of some use to you too.

User Comments (just for archival)

Prior to 2025, my site was on a self-hosted WordPress platfrom. Hosting proved too expensive over time, I tediously moved everything (vis copy & paste) I wanted to keep over to Blogger. I no longer encourage nor accept comments as this is more my repository of info and notes. However I wanted to keep some comments I received before my move ...

  • So crazy your page years later is still doing some good. Thank you for your time and effort and research to organize, list, and post with pictures. I especially like the tips, and what each piece is recommended for but what also works. I really think you should take a look at some of the attachments stands and other accessories to extend this page more. I knew the Dremel tool was useful, but I had no idea it was such a universal necessity. Mine was a gift because I hate when I use screws that are too long, or they get stuck. The screw will stick out the other side and scratch u every time. I was basically just using mine to cut off or sand down screws. I got a little more curious on what all the little pieces are used for. The internet has no real quality explanation except your page or countless hours of watching you tube videos, but I don’t have time for that. Definitely, think about extending this list into some of the more complex but fun and useful accessories and bits. Thank you again!

  • Thank you very much for all your work…. Just wasted 2 hours until I found your page, thanks… I actually just bought a Louxor Lx134MO dremel type drill and 100 pieces attachments, didn’t realize it wasnt an actual Dremel but looked the same and I figured all would be similar to Dremel attatchments…. Keep on thinking free…

  • Thank you so much. I bought a rotary tool several years ago and it’s sat all this time until today when I needed a tiny drill. My set has has well over 100 pieces and is extremely frustrating. This info you took the time to create will be extremely valuable….I will be labeling everything…possibly printing this out too as a mini manual.

  • Very useful thank you for your time and effort.

  • This was simple and just what I needed to sort my Dremel accessories. Thanks for sharing.

  • After searching the web for almost an hour this is the only site that actually answered the questions I had!! The rest just showed images of the bits. I know what they look like! I need to know how to use them! Thank you so much!

  • Wow! This is super helpful! thanks for taking the time to write up this list.

  • Too bad I can’t find something from Dremel on all attachments / accessories that is set up like this page. I bought my dremel 4000 this past weekend and most of the things that came with it have little explanation.
    ~Dan (2016)~
  • very helpful. thanks. I am just trying to decide what to buy as I start off silversmithing.
